First finished sculpture! w00t!!!1

Aw man my sculpture class with Dave Cortes is finished. It was AWESOME! Might be doing some work with him really soon that i'm excited about.

I think I did alright for a first sculpt. Here's some more detail:

It's silly that I don't sculpt more because I love it! I've already started scultping my next practice piece; Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln,) from the live action version of the Walking Dead!
Let's see how I do. Here's where I'm at so far:

Pretty awful at this point....lol. Lots of work to do!

Rejected food network art

This was from a show opening I'm designing. It's going well and I'm pretty psyched that we're doing it in a sort of retro 60's UPA style. What I pitched to them was basically an homage to the Bewitched opening. I think that's why the went for it! WOOT!

Illustration Friday: Prehistoric

My ancestor.

"Drawing is still basically the same as it has been since prehistoric times. It brings together man and the world. It lives through magic." ~ Keith Haring
I love Illustration Friday because it's such a simple fun idea that gets the gears in my head turning. I've missed a bunch but i've been thinking about it for so long. My only complaint is that their site is a little funky to navigate.
New Year is fast approaching...

I'm always sketching, but not nearly enough as I want to, or to grow as much as I'd like. 2011 is going be the year where I post, update, grow, push my online presence and style more than any other time before. This depends entirely on my drawing constantly with no excuses.

Working on a Nightmare themed book for the sketchbook project and I need to get my ass moving on that pronto. Will be posting that as I make 'em.

Illustration friday: Immovable

"Modernity is the transient, the fleeting, the contingent; it is one half of art, the other being the eternal and the immovable."

Illustration Friday: Stargazer

"You taught me the names of the stars overhead that I wrote down in my ledger
Though all I knew of the rote universe were those Pleiades loosed in December
I promised you I'd set them to verse so I'd always remember

That the meteorite is a source of the light
And the meteor's just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee"

~Joanna Newsom, "Emily"

Illustration Friday: Caged

"Much talking is the cause of danger. Silence is the means of avoiding misfortune. The talkative parrot is shut up in a cage. Other birds, without speech, fly freely about." ~ Saskya Pandita

This will also be in my "nightmares" sketchbook for the Sketchbook Project.

Illustration Friday: Ripple

Fiddler crab VS. Oil Schmuck!

Oil stands no chance against that big ole claw.

Late Illustration Friday for 6/11: Trail

Internet was down and didn't get to post.

When I thought of the theme i thought of Bilbo Baggins from my favorite book The Hobbit.

Not too happy with this one, but I'm keeping it up. Will have to do Bilbo and Tolkien justice next time.

Illustration Friday: Slither

Not all things that slither are villainous.

Lots of mistakes all about but overall I'm happy I tried to push both the narrative and composition and I think it sort of works.

Need to use more time to work on these in general.

Also cleaned my palette this time around and used my winsor & newton brushes instead of my quick travel brushes.

What do you think?

Illustration Friday: Early

The early bird catches the worm...or a beating by the worm's older brother who likes to wear sleeveless turtleneck sweaters.

The original quote was:

“No man goes before his time, unless the boss leaves early.” ~ Groucho Marx

Illustration Friday: Equipment

Took me 3 tries before I made something I liked. BAH! Ever have that problem?!? Frustrating as hell. But kept pushing and was happy with this!

Based on mah buddy.

"People like to imagine that because all our mechanical equipment moves so much faster, that we are thinking faster, too."
-Christopher Morley

Sketchcrawl 2010 # 2

Here's a sketch from the second sketchcrawl of this year. This was at the Harlem meer in Central Park.

I did ONE sketch. How lame.

Maybe I'll do more sketchcrawling today.

Illustration Friday: Fearless

YES! A day early!

I was going to give this to my mom for mothers day but I'm a lazy git.

Illustration Friday: Cocoon

A.K.A. Man Child...in his cocoon of geekiness. Don't worry he'll emerge a beautiful butterfly!

But I think the chosen quote sums it up better (I also kind of twisted the cocoon part of the quote around...oh vell!)

A child-like man is not a man whose development has been arrested; on the contrary, he is a man who has given himself a chance of continuing to develop long after most adults have muffled themselves in the cocoon of middle-aged habit and convention. ~ Aldous Huxley

Illustration Friday: Ahead

YAY! I made something for Illustration Friday for the first time!

Don't know why I didn't join this sooner. It's awesome and actually has me doing stuff. Lots of fun stuff on their site.

What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us. ~Henry David Thoreau

Title card doodle

Working on an animated title card for my reel. Some quick thumbs.
